1. Do I need a partner to come to a class ?NO - Dance partners are not required.

If you want to come with friends male and female that is absolutley fine too.

It is an important part of the 'Dance Visions' method for participants to dance with as many different dancers as possible.
Dancers need to experience a wide range of leading / following.
Dancing with one partner only would mean that you would only know his or her level of leading / following, which would make it difficult to dance with anyone else.

2. Will it be ok if I come on my own ? YES - Absolutely! Many people come to classes on their own, it's a great way to meet new people and enjoy a common interest.

3. What should I wear & BRING ?

Although people usually dress to impress in the salsa clubs, at our classes’ comfortable clothing are your priority.
You can get pretty hot and we insist on the highest standards of personal hygiene, so it is up to you to judge if you will need to bring a spare t-shirt/top or not.

FOOTWEAR IS IMPORTANT :

For salsa classes - We recommend smooth soled shoes (NOT new trainers) Ladies should wear shoes of the same height as they are used to. Please bear in mind that you may get trodden on (sandals = "Ouch"!!) and you may tread on someone else (stilettos = "*&%$£"!!!)
Above all wear shoes that are comfortable, not brand new ones that are likely to rub and cause blisters.

For dance exercise workouts - trainers, dance trainers or jazz shoes or properly suportive plimsoles - we will advise people who turn up with incorrect footwear that they must change their footwear in future classes and that they will be liable if any injury occurs as they will have benn advised of what they should be wearing to participate.

WATER :

It is important to take on fluids when doing any form of exercise. All the venues have a kitchen with drinking water but please bring along a bottle of water if you prefer.

4. How long does the lesson last ? Classes are usually 45 minutes and they include a warm up and cool down. You need to allow extra time to get there and get your shoes onand coat off (in the winter!) ready to start.

Any questions are also welcome aftert the class.

5. What sort of people attend ?

There is no particular age or type of person that salsa appeals to.

Dance vision classes across the board are for adults 18+ (our insurance covers us for 16+ ages)

Most will be between the ages of 22 and 48 with exception at both ends.

6. whatlevel am I ?

Am I a beginner?

AM I AN ABSOLUTE BEGINNER OR BEGINNER ?

If you have never had a salsa class before, or you have tried a couple of salsa classes you are a beginner. No expertise in another dance qualifies you for salsa although you can expect to find aspects of the classes easier.

AM I AN IMPROVER ?

If you can do all the basic steps whilst leading / following properly and talking at the same time, then no you need to now move in to the improver class!

An improver has generally completed a significant number of classes and can consistently keep the footwork sequence going. You will have experienced spins, turns and various combinations but probably have not mastered them or cannot remember them.

Please note that if you have reached that free-style level but have had a break from salsa of months / years you are just a rusty intermediate. You should not go back to improver’s level.
If you are not sure call us or try one of our regular weekly classes and have a chat about your level.

7. What is cuban salsa ?

SALSA - Mention the word in any part of the world and people will know what you’re talking about. Its hot spicy rhythm forces hips to sway to the beat. It is one of the most dynamic musical stiles of the Western World. But salsa is actually an umbrella term harboring many different Caribbean and Cuban rhythms such as the son, the cha cha cha and the merengue. It is similar to what happened with the word "swing", which was used generally to refer to the great jazz bands of the 30’s and 40’s. It tends to describe more of a sentiment than a specific rhythm or musical expression. Salsa is not always fast and intense, it can also be slow and romantic or somewhere in between.

8. What is a hip hop workout ?An exercise class based on the hip hop dance style and moves - much more fun than just an aerobics class and the music is funky and explosive to boot, so it will really get you going!

9. can i arrange to have a private lesson /single /couples lesson / group lesson ? Yes - we offer all forms of private lessons for the Cuban Salsa

10. do you teach people for their wedding dance ? Yes of course and we offer many different styles of dance too. Just give us a call to discuss your needs and ideas.
